Methods and mindsets to build a more sustainable future with geosynthetics were explored at an IGS Netherlands conference.

Speakers from the IGS Sustainability Committee and IGS Foundation (IGSF), which sponsored the event at Technical University Delft, shared the latest ideas and ambitions to help the industry create a greener future.

A series of informative and thought-provoking lectures at the 'International Symposium – Geosynthetics and Sustainability' event were:

  • 'Sustainability benefits of geosynthetics in roadway applications' – Jorge Zornberg
  • 'Sustainability applications of geosynthetics in hydraulic applications' – Kent von Maubeuge
  • 'Sustainable use of geosynthetics in landfill and hydraulic applications worldwide' – Boyd Ramsey
  • 'Geosynthetics in the Netherlands: today's status in sustainability' – Wim Voskamp
  • 'IGS initiatives to support sustainable development' – Sam Allen
  • 'IGS Foundation contribution to sustainability' – Jacques Cote
  • Panel discussion with questions from the live and online audience

All the above sessions were recorded and can be viewed here.

Boyd Ramsey, of the IGS Foundation, said: "Addressing and advancing the message about the key role geosynthetics can have in a more sustainable future is very important to us, the IGS and our members. We can all make a difference and the IGS and IGSF are here to help our members to make that difference through collaboration and unity.

"We were delighted to fund this event, participate as speakers, and thanks to IGS Netherlands to also have these important lectures available for all to view – please share with your network!"

The conference was held by IGS Netherlands, known locally as the Dutch Geotextile Organization, or NGO, in May of last year.
