Eminent experts from around the world will be sharing their unmissable perspectives at the upcoming GeoAsia8 conference.

The 8th Asian Conference on Geosynthetics takes place in Brisbane, Australia, on June 10-13, this year, and will explore the theme 'Geosynthetics: pioneering lasting solutions for the Earth'.

The exciting speaker line-up includes:

  • Professors Kerry Rowe & Fady Abdelaal – 'Latest advances in understanding the long-term performance of geomembranes in tailings storage facilities – where are we now with BGMs (bituminous geomembranes)'
  • Professor Jie Han – 'Use of cellular confinement to improve the performance of roads and railways on soft subgrades'
  • Professor Chungsik Yoo – 'Barrier and Hydraulic application: tunnelling and underground transportation'
  • Professor Yoshihisa Miyata – 'Geosynthetic reinforcement technologies for resilient road network'
  • Professor Chew Soon Hoe – 'Geosynthetics applications with sustainable design and construction'
  • Professor Abdelmalek Bouazza – 'Geosynthetic barriers in energy projects'
  • Professor Bagdad Teltayev – 'Kazakhstan's experience in the use of geosynthetic materials in road construction'
  • Dr Nelson Chou – 'Sustainable / green geosynthetic engineering: applications in MSE Walls and Sponge Cities'
  • Professor Buddhima Indraratna – 'Use of geosynthetics to prevent soft subgrade instability and fluidisation under cyclic loading with special reference to railways'

Hosted by the Australasian Chapter of the IGS, known as ACigs, GeoAsia8 will also feature the Fumio Tatsuoka Lecture, which this time will be given by Professor Chao Xu on 'Studies and practice of geosynthetic-reinforced soil abutment and integrated bridge systems'.

Updates on GeoAsia8 can be found on the conference website here, where you can also register and find the full programme of events.

You can also watch two videos presented by conference chairman Siamak Paulson, which explains the conference's aims and how to get involved, and another giving a general overview.
