A lecture series celebrating geosynthetics advances in the Asia region has named Professor Chao Xu as its next honored speaker.

The Fumio Tatsuoka Lecture was established by the IGS Recognitions Task Force in 2022 as one of four newly named lectures recognizing the outstanding work of some of the industry's most pioneering practitioners.

This particular keynote is presented at every GeoAsia conference, the 8th edition of which takes place on June 10-13, this year, in Brisbane, Australia, hosted by ACigs, the Australasian Chapter of the IGS.

Dr. Xu's lecture will be titled 'Studies and practice of geosynthetic-reinforced soil abutment and integrated bridge systems'.

Dr. Xu, who works in the Department of Geotechnical Engineering at the College of Civil Engineering Tongji University, China, and is also chair of IGS China, said: "Over the years I have been dedicated to the research and technological application of geosynthetics, and have achieved some accomplishments in this field. Receiving the recognition of the leadership and peers at the IGS and the IGS Asian Regional Activities Committee, as well as being awarded the Tatsuoka Lecturer Award, is a great honor and happiness for me. I express my deepest gratitude and sincere thanks.

"I will keep in mind the outstanding contributions and noble spirit of Prof. Tatsuoka, and continue to make efforts to promote the widespread use and development of geosynthetics in China and across Asia. At the same time, I will actively participate in international cooperation, contributing new strength and wisdom to the development of geosynthetics."

The Tatsuoka Lecture includes a one-hour presentation during the opening session of the GeoAsia conference, along with a written paper published in the conference proceedings.
